I’ve hated their general approach, but on this point they may not be wrong?

This isn't blocking care, it’s stopping £500 taxi trips for routine appointments. Those with urgent needs can still use taxis. It’s trying to cut obvious waste.

Obv that only works if public transport is fit for purpose.

Ahhhh I've been thinking you were talking about 'outer wilds' this entire time... i thought it sounded like they've gone in a very different direction with the second game. I forgot outer worlds was a thing...

If it's 5mm small and one of the rarest creatures in Britain it can hardly be called an effective "canary in the coal mine" for water quality.

It seems safe to assume in the 21C we can check water pollution without having to do it flintstones method and ask the snails.

Classic NIMBY logic.

There are no perfect, empty plots for 20k homes without any ecological considerations. There is always a spider, or a spore, or a noise complaint. At this point conservation has been turned into a weapon to block home building and maintain the country's economic decline

I think that's more primary school, it tends to get a bit more complex after that.

It👏is👏a👏snail

"Money bad - snails good" is a straw man. That "developer" is building 20,000 homes that real people desperately need and the govemment promised to deliver. The alternative is continuing the housing crisis that has punished an entire generation and underlies the UK's current problems

Because the system is routinely weaponised by those who simply don't want development anywhere?

The question isn't why the protections exist; it's why the system allows newts or mushrooms to be used as a veto to block 20,000 homes indefinitely.

Great who gives a shit about some snails, honestly this stuff is mad.

What is it

Actually, Disco did become a shared experience with my nongaming partner. We’d lounge on the couch talking through choices, reacting to the story, and debating next steps.

Haven’t found many games that click like that, but "solo" hobbies can turn into communal ones when the right one comes along

The idea that all free time must be “shared” is absurd. Adults are allowed solitary hobbies, whether it’s gaming, reading, or just staring at a wall.

If your argument is “you owe every waking minute to others,” then nothing is justified- not books, not TV, not even a long shower.

Tbh this is nonsense on the same level as “missiles are phallic because of the patriarchy.”

The idea conservativism is only due to selective mortality ignores the reality people become more conservative with age due to shifting priorities, nostalgia, and a growing desire for stability.

I mean sometimes people just do things because of vibes or short sightedness. Not everything vaguely non- left-wing needs some kremlin puppetmaster pulling the strings. Guess that thinking makes me a kremlin troll.

Imo earlier series like TNG thrived on an escapist optimistic vision of the future, where humanity overcame its flaws to explore the cosmos with cooperation and moral clarity.

I just don't believe anyone wanted this grimdark ST, focused on conflict, convoluted plots and interpersonal strife.

Honestly I'm a bit luke-warm on it as I'm not patient enough to do spend lots of time on something without knowing why, but my girlfriend loves it.

That was unexpected, this just helped me identify a card I've been struggling with in 'the researchers first murder', thanks Don!
