New preprint! Fungus gnats (Diptera: Sciaridae) have additional chromosomes exclusive to their germline cells. Using RNA-seq and cytology, we find evidence of low-level transcription from these mysterious chromosomes, plus a large bacterial insertion derived from germline endosymbionts.
