What AI can do for you: write an entire feature from scratch in one minute

What AI can’t do for you: save you two hours of figuring out why the examples in the Electron docs don’t work and your build is broken

Found this by chance. So strange to see a frozen snapshot of the old web movement, right around the time it started to die:

Today I realized typewriters were not a practical thing in Japan and China. Wild to think about.

2025 and Linux is still a shit show.

In one afternoon: issues with Ubuntu system updates, browsers stopped working, had to rollback snap, Arduino IDE has no ARM build, python version problems, and then it turns out the snap version of the IDE doesn’t actually work and I should reinstall manually 🫠

All these self-improvement apps with the fake quizzes, makes it look like a scam even if it isn’t.

I bet a lot of actually good stuff ends up lost to these marketing shenanigans

This “digital transformation” crap is a disease:

- ruining perfectly working systems in the name of progress
- selling out core capabilities to third parties
- usually resulting in a worse product in some dimension

popular or unpopular opinion?

Preact Signals just got a huge performance boost:

Signals rendered as text/props & effects only "pull" as fast as needed for rendering. Since computeds run as-needed, they now only re-run as often as their downstream DOM output can be painted.

H/t to @jovidecroock.com for making this happen.

Yes! I’ve been saying this for quite some time. We’ve replaced a vetted, reputation-based system (TV & written media) with a free-for-all money grab.
At 30,000 followers you become a "celebrity" and are prohibited from endorsing drugs, according to an official ruling by the UK Advertising Standards Authority.

If you have any drugs you want me to endorse, now could be your last chance!
Having 30,000 followers makes you a celebrity, UK advertising watchdog rules
The one time it might be ok to obsess over your follower count
