The people will never forgive Ed Davey for Hikegate! There’s blood on his hands!

“Well this is just bonkers!”

Similar to Doctor Who in the mid-80s. Cancelled and revived very quickly, but all stories they had in the works dropped, and even with only half as many scripts to write they were in a real bind (though there were some extraordinary circumstances too in that instance)

I’m reminded of Blake’s 7, which functionally ended after three series but was unexpectedly revived for a fourth. Production had to start from scratch, including contract negotiations with actors, and even with an 18 month gap they were really pushed for time with some of the first scripts.

It is slightly mad how big it was looking back. Like, my sister didn’t ever dress up as a Disney princess but she did have a Thunderbirds uniform

Clint Eastwood is older than Charles Lindbergh Jr

They’re appalling bad for finding everything other than franchise/children’s stuff. Wonder if this is because in the US a lot of this ends up on Hulu instead of Disney+, so it’s less of a priority to separate them

Lowkey the most interesting bit of Harry Potter world-building is that Major is Prime Minister for most of the buildup of the wizard war and knows about it, but Tony Blair is PM when it ends. Like, do they ever talk about it afterwards? They better address this somewhere in the show’s 72 hr runtime

It’s like each episode was expecting the other to do the heavy lifting, and both lack spectacle as a result. I suspect that RTD expected Gatwa to make more of an impression in The Giggle, but he sort of gets lost against Tennant and NPH.

I’ve generally liked RTD2, but Church/Space Babies to open were… odd choices. Even beyond the superficial off-putting aspects (singing goblins, talking babies) neither episode is very well put-together, and I find it staggering that neither have a big “fuck yeah, here’s the new Doctor” moment.

I sometimes wonder if 121 seats in July was actually quite a lot, all things considered

As well as cherry-picking, it sometimes feels like the argument boils down to “the Doctor is a force for good, and *my* politics are good, so the Doctor and by extension the show must agree with my politics”

Funny how these hard truths will all perfectly align with her own beliefs

Who can’t love a story that features this list?

I only really fell in love with it when marathoning all of Classic Who. Whereas my thoughts about other eras didn’t really change much between dipping in at random points and watching everything in order.

I think the Hartnell era is the only classic one where you really gain something from watching it all in order.
