Not realising, we didn't get to thank him for all the superbly useful info that helps travelling through Europe with a toddler... Enjoy your holidays!

Morning moods towards Vienna ☕

I can't quite believe that @seatsixtyone.bsky.social was on the same Eurostar and sat next to us in the bar in Brussels before boarding different night trains.

Going to work after a lovely weekend. Glad S. doesn't know this was left in my coat pocket by accident...

Fabulous week and a bit in Scotland, visiting our lovely friends along the way. First time S. has been and we managed to see dolphins too 🐬

Superb days in Hungary with colleagues, friends, and most importantly, family. Probably the longest time I have spent away from S., and can't wait for a hug now...

...the Welsh coast is 💓🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Some serious dam building going on here! The one with the rocks is S' own work, clearly inspired by his dad

...in other news, the lovely people in the restaurant overheard our conversation about my promotion to assoc prof, and presented me with this 😭

... lovely afternoon with the board of Educational Review, superb colleagues indeed; I did my PhD with Becky & Nadia at UOB. (I finally walked through the archway of Old Joe without the fear of failing my degree...)

I am also delighted to share some of my finest works of late. Getting better and better at building Brio layouts (not as much meeting deadlines)

...we always laugh about how it's impossible to get all the S.-related clutter out of our bags when going on work trips. Today's destination is Durham, and no, Crosscountry didn't accept this ticket...

Finally, a breezy but sunny day for a walk on Stanage Edge. S and I have a boulder we always take photos on when we're out there, since I was 8.5 months pregnant 🪨

I 💛 working with these peeps - three kind & supportive colleagues, @soniailie.bsky.social, @ddubdrahcir.bsky.social and @mannymadriaga.bsky.social. We've been organising seminars for @srhe.bsky.social as the Student Access and Experience Network for 5 years now... Do get in touch with your ideas!

Join the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) Student Access and Experience Network for a seminar series on the research and teaching nexus, with a mixture of in-person and online events between February - April 2025! /1

Birmingham - London - Brussels - Vienna - Györ, then to home ((town)) village by car. A tad busy on the Vienna - Budapest route, hence S. having crisps seated on the floor...

Photos of a great journey through Europe with a toddler. Although only 3, this was the fourth time S. travelled by train between England and Hungary on a route Seat 61 suggests - detail & photos via the link really helped to imagine how things work before the first trip

UON Graduation 🎓 aka silly hat day. After a pretty tough semester it felt all worth it to see our students from the PGCHE, MA and PhD programmes graduate this week. Great to be celebrating them with some amazing colleagues

Really fortunate to have some superb colleagues who were willing to submit papers with me to this year's Society for Research into Higher Education conference! We'll be talking about academic freedom with Gergely Kováts; 1/

...I do other stuff, too, promise. Not bike polo anymore, just cycling, swimming, a bit of bouldering, and film photography with an old camera.

Most important of all, I get to spend my time with this lovely, clever, super-cheeky, bi-lingual small person, S.
