Pay Keysell used to furnish every episode of Vision On with sign language for deaf viewers. I don't know if anything similar happens today, but I hope that a generation of kids grew up less inclined to think of deaf people as "other".

Elizabeth Maconchy, composer of some of my favourite music. At first hearing I didn't care for her string quartets - but something drew me back to them again. And again. And each time, I found something new in them. They continue to reward attention.

I can never decide whether this or Rubens' interpretation of the myth is the more disturbing. Goya captures the madness and conflict within Saturn, but Rubens depicts him as a seemingly unemotional monster. 🤔

The most enjoyable aspects of software engineering are learning and problem solving - precisely the elements that AI undermines. I hope that future engineers don't just end up "repeating what the machine said", for that would be soulless indeed.
