Me: *sitting in the hotel lobby looking up birdwatching spots on my phone*

Northern Mockingbird immediately outside the hotel lobby window: Hi?

Sometimes forgetting that there's film in the camera that should be hand-checked works out. The photography of yesterday today! #polaroid

This exhibit at MoMA made me think of 17776, so it's time for a reread.

If you missed it, go read -- it's one of my favorite pieces of multimedia narrative ever: https://www.sbnation.com/a/17776-football

(It's not really about football, I promise. Just keep scrolling and trust me.)

My hotel snack game usually can't be beat, but a tub of sungolds from my friends' garden wins out over all manner of fancy chocolates and cheese cubes. 🧡

I recently shot my first roll of #35mm since the 90s (and first ever with not-a-point-and-shoot), and I'm pleasantly surprised by how many I'm happy with.

I'm going to need to do some reckoning with my complete lack of interest in doing my own […]

These are better examples of what the camera can do, but not nearly as funny.

I recently got a used superzoom for #birding, and I've been taking a lot of photos in my backyard to get a feel for it. Yesterday I looked up on a neighbor's roof and frantically started shooting what I thought was some sort of hideous monster bird […]

Sunny Sunday ride with Marceline! A #polaroidlab experiment on #polaroid600 film. (The experiment is figuring out how to consistently make Lab prints that have somewhat reasonable color reproduction, and aren't green.)

I love #polaroid sky so much.

There were too many activities to choose from yesterday, so I said screw it and took my bike to the beach by way of Golden Gate Park. Still figuring out the best cargo solution, but I did finally decide on her name: Marceline (yes, the Vampire Queen) […]

Took the I-2 to the Lan Su Chinese Garden this weekend. The weirdly overcast-but-bright conditions meant that most of my exposures were Learning Exercises or fodder for future mixed media manipulations, but there are a few I'm happy with! #polaroid

Happy New Bike Day to me! After years of thinking about it and months of research and test rides, I finally got an ebike. She is a Tern Quick Haul and I am already in love with her.

Me: ADHD can be seriously disruptive, it isn't just "Look, a squirrel!"

Also me: *abandons breakfast on the stove to go outside and take pictures of a squirrel in the yard*

Well, this time sending film through the SFO security scanner -- literally the exact same machine as last time! -- did have an effect. I shot a full new, fresh pack of I-Type in bright daylight, no exposure compensation, and every single one has a […]

Took my new-to-me and freshly-refurbished #polaroid SX-70 Autofocus on its first SF Instant Photo Walk today, and I am in love.

I've had "Le Poisson Steve" on infinite loop in my head for nearly two weeks now, so of course I had to make a Steve of my own. This didn't get Steve out of my head, but that's okay, he's welcome there. #needlefelting #lepoissonsteve

My first few post-flight test shots were inconclusive due to photographer error, but the ultimate verdict is: the film was fine! Both the partial pack that was in the camera and the spare pack. FWIW it was one of the newer style of scanner where you […]

It was entirely too bright to be taking photos on my late morning walk today, but I couldn't help but pull the #polaroid 640 out of my bag to try to capture two rare SF sightings: the big Castro Pride flag photogenically unfurled in a gentle breeze […]

"I don't know how people stand living in cities, I could never be so disconnected from nature."

Babe I just saw 6 different birds in the 5 minutes I stood on the sidewalk waiting for a city bus: the 5 Merlin also identified and a fat little […]

I also love this one, because I took the shot knowing there was no way I was actually going to capture the fireworks someone was setting off in the street mid-kaboom with my #polaroid on a dark night and then I DID. 😮

I took a bunch of portraits […]

I spent Thursday-Sunday running around the city with a bunch of Polaroid/instant film nerds (affectionate) at PolaCon Bay Area. I knew exactly zero people there and was anxious I'd be out of place, but everyone was so welcoming! I'm still exhausted […]

Getting into #polaroid photography -- especially with vintage cameras -- means having a large discard pile of Polaroids with defects that go beyond "funky imperfections" and cross over into just Not Good.

So I've started playing around with drawing […]

New bird on the block! From a distance I thought it was one of the local sparrows, but I was drawn to look closer by a soft and slow "chup, chup, chup" I hadn't heard before. Welcome, Hermit Thrush! So kind of you to pose in the same position as your Merlin photo for me while I looked you up.

When ur mangonada so big they gotta put it in a bag.

(Yes, there is a tamarind candy straw hiding under the surface somewhere.)
