Just intrigued; what are the benefits of a small horse/pony over a (large breed) dog?

Strength? Allergies? Fear of dogs?

Logistically seems more effort, so I guess the return is better?

(I tried googling, but was virtually a "because you can" type discussion)

I guess we'll expect unironic complaining of "Why we gotta learn English? I only learnt to speak American in America!" 🤦

Given it's behaving otherwise, I'd say the cable is fine and just the IDC (plug or socket) being tired.

As for the loose IDC end, you could:
- Replace the cable (the whole cable is $10~ I think)
- Crimp a new IDC connector.
- Extend it with a generic (24 pin?) IDC and long pin header strip to join them.
- Moar hotglue.

Looking up the S1 cable, it appears it can get damaged during homing, so check for cuts along it.
You can print a guide to prevent it in future.

Yeah, just a tiny drip on each thread around the section the nut will live and then level the bed. Once the thread lock sets it should hold.

Blue loctite (not red) - softer than nylock's so you can adjust without tools, but stops the adjustments loosening thru vibrations.
