I don't read much YA anymore, but I was excited to read They Bloom at Night by Trang Thanh Tran.

It's YA horror, but also a Trans story of growth and change. It's a climate apocalypse story. It's cosmic horror tinged with mercy.

It's really, really good. Highly recommend it.

Not the most important thing going on... but today is the 10 year anniversary of Fallout 4. It is by far and away my most played game. I figure I'll start a new run in honor of ten years. If I knew anything about streaming/recording play, I'd be tempted. I just love this game.

Just finished Magica Riot by @magicariot.com (Kara Buchanan). Loved it.

Absurdly fun.
Lovable characters.
Unabashed trans joy.
Magical girls.
With keytars.

It is a blast and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

And I could get it from Bookshop, so no Amazon needed. Always a plus.

There were so many. But the one I will always come back to as formative for me is Alanna, by Tamora Pierce. This library cover was a book I read a hundred times and I still think about it often, even today.

Just finished Bunny, by Mona Awad. Enjoyed it well enough. It is a perfect 3 star type read for me. Entertaining and readable, but I'm not really attached or invested. Weird, not quite horror(?). I can see the movie poster in my head.

If you see this, post a vampire that isn't Dracula.

One super hero vampire deserves another.

I just finished sunburn, by Chloe Michelle Howarth. It was beautifully written and has left me raw. I highly recommend it. It punches you in the chest a lot, but it's worth it. I don't know what else to say. Just hollowed out by it right now.

#Septopolis 28. Ignore the old name (and my complete lack of artistic skill), but this is the picture I drew of Toree Teerayu when It was used for gaming. I just wanted to show the scale of the city, its districts, and the multiple harbors.

So, I just finished reading "One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This" by Omar El Akkad. I dont have the words or the capacity to understand, to explain how powerful a read this is. I think everyone should read it.

It is brutal to read as recent events and more worrying in 2025.

Okay, dopamine hit for the weekend. I got two CDs in the mail today, and honestly, it feels like 1995 all the sudden.

Both CDs are albums by The Beaches. And they're great.

I doom post too much. It was nice to come home to a package today with a nifty RPG book inside. I really like the AGE system and I think Modern Age is underrated in RPG discussions. Powers is such a great addition because it's not really about supers - it's for humans who are a bit super. Very cool.

I don't normally enjoy litfic family dramas. It's just not my thing for a lot of reasons. I don't know why I was drawn to this one, but I'm glad I was. Newman's writing is magnificent. I loved this tiny story of a week in the life of a 54 year old mother of two so much. I cried. But also laughed.

I've been participating in this month long exercise in sharing our fantasy pantheons. It's been a lot of fun. Thanks to @professoremily.bsky.social for starting it. I try to look at other people's and give likes.

That also means scrolling a lot and... uh... the rest of the news makes me suicidal.

Just finished Written on the Dark by Guy Gavriel Kay. I love his books because you can feel how much he loves art, beauty, and the messiness of people getting on with their lives. It felt timely with its messages about art and words and petty men. But maybe that's just me? Anyway, I loved it.

Post a random picture or everything will go bad in August. (I mean, it cant hurt, right?)

I have watched this movie dozens of times, I think. It's been a while, I should watch it again.

Just finished @greenwell.bsky.social's excellent Bad Company book. Great writing, powerful material. Left me slack-jawed with rage. Highly recommend. It's an important topic and handled very well here.

Finally got my copy of Bad Company by @greenwell.bsky.social. Early returns? It's going to be informative and rage-inducing.

Went out to buy a copy of @greenwell.bsky.social's Bad Company book today and my local B&N didn't order a single copy for the store. Yes, this is also the only real brick and mortar bookstore within 30 miles of me.

Ever since I was a kid, Alan Scott has been my favorite superhero. At some point, DC decided to change/reveal him as a queer character. Since then, he has remained my favorite superhero. And the DC Pride 2025 story is really good.
