How do we do that? Man, I don't know. But we won't figure it out if we're wasting all our energy sniping at each other over tactical disagreements on things that already happened. If we're fighting each other, we're not fighting them. (/thread)

It’s scary to accept that there probably isn’t anything we could have done differently to win this election. The blame for this outcome is not with any of us. It is with them. We need to be fighting them, not each other. (8/9)

We have to stop treating people on the right like they’re a natural disaster and treating people on the left like we’re the only ones responsible for stopping it. People on the right have agency! They are responsible for their own terrible choices! (7/9)

Kamala didn’t lose because of anything she or the left did or failed to do. She lost because there are too many people in this country who don’t like women, Black people, immigrants, or queers, or are at least happy to sell out those groups for cheaper eggs. Which they won’t even get. (6/9)

Kamala also didn’t lose because she was too far to the left. Are you kidding? She’s a cop who campaigned with Liz Cheney and promised to put Republicans in her cabinet. A bunch of people just assumed she’s a liberal because she’s Black. (5/9)

By the same token, Kamala didn’t lose because she tacked too far to the right. That would have shown up in the turnout numbers on the left. It didn’t. (4/9)

Kamala didn’t lose because leftists stayed home. Turnout is looking to be near the historic highs of 2020, including among people on the left. (h/t @michaelhobbes.bsky.social) (3/9)
2024 turnout is near the 2020 record. See how each state compares.
Votes are still being counted in some states, but those tabulated so far and expected totals show a range of turnout across states.

Kamala didn’t lose because leftists voted third-party. You could make this argument in 2016, but not in 2024. There were not enough third-party voters to have made a difference in the outcome. (2/9)

Deep down, how much of it is because people know that "decreasing housing prices" is the same thing as "reducing property values"? Homeowners are choosing to believe what it benefits them to believe.

And Alexander wept, for society was perfect and there was no more social progress to seek

As a relative beginner I just want to say how helpful it is when artists share information about their tools and methods! Thanks. These are great.

Incredible. Very difficult for me to not read this as a new spin on "girl dinner."

I tend to think it's Frankfurt-style bullshit of the type you've discussed on If Books. They know the conclusion (Dems are bad and don't get to tell us what to do); they'll reach for any bolster to that argument without considering in any real sense whether they believe it's true.
