Yes, it should. But not all politicians who claim to be serving the people are actually very good at it. Sometimes their limited self-awareness can be an obstacle to doing so.

Given that the far-right demagogue, Yaxley-Lennon, and his mindless followers keep telling us that there were 3 million people on their march on Saturday, couldn't we now say there are 3 million on this one? The far-right mob are a credulous lot!
