That's been Tim Walz's campaign stop in Savannah! Thanks for following along with me! 🧵
October 29, 2024 at 6:49 PM
Walz closed out his rally on an extremely optimistic note, and left the audience chanting "we're gonna win" as he went into the audience to shake voters' hands.
Overall, the rally was short, energetic, and overwhelmingly positive. The tone was more laid-back, which seemed to resonate with Savannah.

Perhaps a nod to the complicated recounts in Georgia in the 2020 election, Walz says that he would be happy if they won Georgia by only one vote, because he knows "that was Jimmy Carter's vote that put us over."

While many people at the rally have likely already voted, he is urging those in the room to find relatives and friends that haven't voted yet. He is framing the election as a fight to the endzone, "but we have the ball".

Walz is closing out his speech with a prologned football metaphor, which has left the audience looking excited and inspired. The energy is high and people are seeming hopeful.

Walz's attacks have become more personal - he said that Trump does not love the U.S. because he is unable "to love anything other than himself" and framed himself and Harris as someone who loves America alongside voters.

"We're not going to just elect Kamala Harris as president, we are also going to take the House and Senate."
Walz details that he and Harris are committed to implementing a reproductive rights law.
October 29, 2024 at 6:38 PM
Walz is speaking directly to the men in the audience, to urge them to consider the women in their lives. This is in response to the reversal of Roe v. Wade in 2022. "Young women in the room, you have less rights than your mothers had."

"We can uphold the second amendment while also upholding our first responsibility, which is protecting our children."
While not giving any concrete details about a gun control plan, Walz is speaking on the fact that both he and Harris are gun owners and believe in the second amendment.

Harris and Walz are hoping to expand Minnesota's initiatives for affordable pharmecuticals, and to cap insulin charges at $35. He is specifically appealing to young voters, by framing Medicare as an issue not that they don't have to worry about, but one they should worry about for their own future.

Walz is promising to reform childcare in America, in response to J.D. Vance's recent comments about how grandparents should be the childcare for their families.
"We should give a class to these guys on how to talk to women."

The first concrete claim Walz has made is that he and Harris are hoping to give hundreds of millions of middle-class Americans a tax cut.
October 29, 2024 at 6:25 PM
"We've got real plans for America."
Walz is specifically speaking on the economic factors that have been up for debate during this election cycle, possibly to help sway the voters who "don't like Donald Trump personally" but are interested in his economic policies.
October 29, 2024 at 6:24 PM
He is setting out to put voters' anxious minds at ease, and contends that the best way to ease the anxiety is to get out and vote.
October 29, 2024 at 6:22 PM
Walz is taking a more casual tone during this rally: "Let's just talk turkey. Donald Trump is just a loser in everything he's done."
October 29, 2024 at 6:22 PM
"Folks are still making up their mind... I know it's hard to believe that," said Walz. "Some people's memories are a little hazy..."
Walz is "reminding" undecided voters of what our country was like 4 years ago - including speaking on Trump's Covid response and supply chain issues.

This is Walz's second appearance in Savannah, but first alone. Both Harris and Walz campaigned in Savannah in August. Harris is currently in D.C. for a rally later tonight at the site of the January 6th riots.
