My politics are not selfish
The only proper response to this is:

“Fuck you, you piece of shit. Who do you think you are, treating people so poorly like this? I won’t stand for it even if others do. You demean the office you hold, and you are a complete asshole”.

If you read the whole thread that lead to your comment you would see that the idea that “defund the police” means completely eliminating police funding is not my idea. It’s how others have defined the term.

Why would we believe anything these people report to us?

Personally, I process everything they say as untrue. Especially for anything they say that makes them look good or otherwise fits in to a narrative they promote.

…everyone is worried about the ring; where he bought it; how much it cost; why he proposed in public.

Mature, intelligent people focus on whether their partner is the right person to have children with, and to support them when their parents die, etc.

A ring is not required for this.

This post and nearly all replies reveals a lot about humanity - and explains the high divorce rate.

A man is asking a woman to be life partners, presumably forever. This ought to be one of the most sober and serious decisions in life. Instead…

Finally… a common sense post!

Came here to say this.

Reading the original story and the replies here, I worry for humanity.

Radical reform and budget reallocation are both required.

“Reinvent the police and redistribute their funding”. Not catchy but this is something I support.
November 27, 2025 at 3:47 AM
A wholesale reboot of law enforcement and reallocation of dollars to help people rather than abuse people sounds like a great start.

Zero tolerance of racist and abusive conduct from anyone in law enforcement is required.
November 27, 2025 at 3:28 AM
100% support ALL of this.

Thank you for your patience with me.
November 27, 2025 at 3:08 AM
So, defund means to reduce police budgets and reallocate dollars to organizations that will actually help people rather than encourage systematic abuse with military equipment and weapons.

I’m down for that.
November 27, 2025 at 3:06 AM
I did not yet read this but I will. Thanks.

Not a dick.
November 27, 2025 at 3:03 AM
Thank you. I will read it!
November 27, 2025 at 3:02 AM
Great question. I had always assumed defund the police means to abolish the police as we know it today by removing all funding.

Perhaps this is a misunderstanding.
November 27, 2025 at 3:01 AM
The phrase is not ideal but that is not my focus. My focus is on the practice, literal, operational solution.

Defund the police. OK. Great.

Now what? I don’t think anyone in this conversation is advocating anarchy. So how do we enforce laws?
November 27, 2025 at 2:44 AM
Just to be clear, I am not focusing my argument on phraseology. I am focusing on dollars. On budget allocated to core government functions.

We can’t literally remove all funding from enforcing the laws, or monitoring the border, or the ancillary tasks of local police (homelessness, etc).

Can we?
November 27, 2025 at 2:34 AM
There is nothing wrong with reporting on the rantings and ravings of popular lunatics and racists, so long as it is made perfectly clear that the person saying these things is a lunatic and a racist. And a practiced liar as well.
November 27, 2025 at 12:42 AM
This is fair criticism. But I would be surprised if anyone is suggesting we should have no border; no law enforcement; no emergency assistance… zero dollars allocated to these things.

As bad as police/ICE/BP are today, having zero resources in these areas will not produce a better outcome.
November 27, 2025 at 12:36 AM
I am certainly not advocating that we keep things just as they are, but just with a smaller budget.

A full reset is required, focusing the right people, with the right training, on real problems.

This will require funding. “Defunding” is not logical to me.
November 27, 2025 at 12:32 AM
Of course I completely agree. ICE and BP are out of control and we don’t need anyone punched in the face for any reason.

When all of this out-of-control, violent enforcement is removed, what do we call it?

I don’t think it is “defund ICE/police”.

It’s more like “full reboot on law enforcement”.
November 27, 2025 at 12:32 AM
We don’t need cops/ICE harassing anyone. We do need properly trained people helping the homeless, mentally ill and substance addicted. We do need a monitored/managed border with an appropriate immigration policy to execute.

Is this “defund the police”?

There is nothing racist about these ideas.
