41 minutes of hi-def video also completely disproves their “fog of war” justification

She’ll vote the right way only when the GOP has enough votes that it doesn’t matter

And very much just the current president, given that the same solicitude was not extended to Biden’s requests for interim relief
August 14, 2025 at 6:51 PM
There also seems to be a big difference between a stay that effectively overturns SC precedent without explanation versus one that pauses an outlier decision
July 24, 2025 at 8:38 PM
It’s an even dumber argument in this case because the vast majority of the tax cuts are just extensions of the prior cuts that were due to expire. Whatever marginal (if any) boost to growth is already baked in and hasn’t left to the magical revenues they claim

Because Biden won the 2020 election, I think a lot of people forget that he wasn’t president until January 2021

I think they could potentially first ask for en banc reconsideration by the 9th circuit

LA proper though is collection of wildly different neighborhoods, with independent cities mixed in. Bel Air is part of the city of LA, along with lots of other swanky areas!

Of all the (countless, terrible) things to attack Miller for, this is the dumbest
June 11, 2025 at 12:49 AM
Miller is a POS, but I don’t think him saying he’s from LA when he’s actually from SM is that notable. The LA-area is a hodgepodge of neighborhoods. Some are technically LA (like Venice) while others (like next door Santa Monica) are their own cities, but it’s common to refer to all as parts of LA

That’s not a fair comparison. Jake only attacks democrats so he is clearly objective. It’s only critical comments about republicans that show bias that deserve repudiation.

At the same time the Court also blocked discovery about DOGE designed to determine whether they are subject to FOIA—so DOGE can access the most personal information about all of us but the records of how they are operating remain hidden. Privacy for the government but not the people.

“WelcomeFest” seemed to drive the factionalism news focus that Yglesias bemoans a fair bit

Matt: “I’m a little bit disheartened that these controversies have soaked up so much attention over the past four to five weeks, as we’ve seen a really rotten GOP budget reconciliation bill coming together.”

Matt: let’s hold an abundance conference to soak up as much attention as possible

You don’t even need to admit that they are taxes! The constitution explicitly lists the laying and collecting of “duties and imposts” (i.e.tariffs) as one of congress’s enumerated powers

He was the sole democrat to vote to confirm Kushner’s criminal dad as ambassador to France just last week!

Is she providing her own opinion that the funds were wasted or conveying the admin’s stated justification for their termination?
May 28, 2025 at 2:03 PM
Also, can you imagine the outrage and accusations of bias if a msn reporter ever referred to republicans as “fuckers”?
May 24, 2025 at 12:18 PM
Exactly—-the only “history and traditions” are the cherry-picked ones that support their preferred policy outcomes, just like the major questions doctrine or invented presidential immunity.

Could California just impose a 500% sales tax on any ICE vehicle effective 2035 to accomplish the same goal?
May 22, 2025 at 3:22 PM
I always assume the worst with the GOP, but wouldn’t doing so be a much more explicit and harder to defend nuking of the filibuster than their (still indefensible) action on the CRA?
May 22, 2025 at 2:11 PM
Is that true for the entirety of the current bill or will it have to be amended to pass reconciliation rules? Certain of the provisions—such as gutting courts’ ability to enforce contempt orders—seem to not be primarily budget related and therefore not exempt from filibuster under reconciliation
