Yes it’s a sentimental poem but it summarizes Caeiro well: expressing a feeling or sense (loving, seeing) as more fundamental than, and prior to, a concept that seems materially necessary (existence/being).

I like the Alberto Caeiro persona because u can interpret him as excessively materialistic to the point of spirituality. I take “stop seeing” to mean he doesn’t mean he’ll be dead, just that he’ll look away, or close his eyes.
