Designed & prototyped this Sakura 🌺 Coaster (brass) in my studio over the past week!

Learned a lot about designing for manufacturing & how to generate efficient tool paths.

I’m still not great, but learning and super excited to keep going. 🙃🙂🙃

This yo-yo thing / obsession is getting out of "hand" 😂

I give you my latest creation, the apple spinning beach ball of death yo-yo, made with valence.

I remade the famous colorful Apple logo using Valence 3D!

1. Used the new text primitive to create the  logo
2. Used the boolean intersection op to create the various sections
3. Set each part’s material color to match the reference
4. Exported a bunch of shots
5. Used VSCO to apply filters

This weekend I wrote a GLTF and GLB file exporter for Valence 3D (built on cgltf)

With #gltf & #glb exporting you can quickly import your #3D scenes made in valence3d.app into rendering & game engines.

GLTF is widely used on the web so I’m hoping this will help people with #threejs #r3f #webdev

More processing and thinking thru the algorithm(s)

If you are ever curious what some of these algorithms start as, here is a sneak peak into how to create polygon faces that has holes to feed into a half-edge mesh. This will be used to create 3D text meshes. Rasterizing a glyph is not insanely hard, properly handling holes is where it gets hard.

Added support for exporting polygon fill colors based on shading (matcap, normal, diffuse and wireframe)

Some progress, definitely not perfect or super fast. But good enough for some art plots, etc. #penplotter #svg #3D #meshtosvg

Appreciate all the suggestions! Going to try them next. I tried to just brute force it by using tons of raycasting and polygon clipping, got pretty far, but then ran into the issues @jcowles.bsky.social mentioned. The red faces below show partially visible faces (from their vertices point of view)

Working on exporting SVGs of 3D meshes. Anyone have insights on hidden surface removal or polygon clipping. I’m currently thinking of raycasting and clipping polygons. Just seems like a lot.

Finally got around to implementing matcap rendering in Valence. Here are some fun renders from the app! #graphics
