I think the real answer is people who don’t understand these things just look and see the bigger number. It’s useful for marketing. You can bet the core network’s not been upgraded in anticipation of lots of 5Gb users online maxing their lines. Cos that’s not gonna happen.

Actually as someone said game downloads would be the legit version of this. They’re often 100GB or more, so 5G would speed things up. Still only saving a few minutes occasionally so meh

Piracy via usenet, but even at 1Gb the largest files take like 15-20mins so it’s hardly a pressing need. And I’d have to upgrade my internal switching (assuming cabling can do 5GBASE-T)

It’s hit and miss but there are some good posts and discussions on there too. I just felt the piece made it sound like a hangout for grifters and nothing else.

Long overdue for high-end cameras to support USB video class. A few years ago I looked into it and there was only one I could find, can’t remember the name. HDMI capture is just dumb.

I’m in favour of free trade generally so no issue with the deal. But the beef industry is already an ecological disaster, the idea we’d fly beef from South America to Europe is crazy!!!

I don’t think your characterisation of Hacker News is at all right. Top responses on both the AI and Bitcoin threads you mention are sceptical. It’s got a few true believers sure, but it’s far for an echo chamber or hype machine.
