In honor of @fsoas.bsky.social , the extinct animal this week is Hallucigenia!
Hallucigenia Hallu Hallucination/Dream-Like hallucigenia is a Cambrian.. something. The closest it’s been labeled as is an early arthropod. That’s one issue with Cambrian animals, we have no fucking idea what this thing really is. They were tiny little things covered in spikes. Originally when their fossils were found, they were reconstructed upside down as if they were on stilts. Hallu’s are very skittish girls. They curl up in a ball and show off their spikes whenever any sort of shadow passes over them. They’ll hide like this for hours. Often times they might hide so long they start to starve. However, according to one adamant source, hallu’s cannot look behind them because they’re always moving forward to smite their enemies. We’re.. unsure the validity of this.

Giganotosaurus is the last of the three megatheropods, the largest terrestrial carnivores to walk the earth. They ruled South America. Giganotosaurus stands as one of the final Carcharodontosaurs only superseded by Mapusaurus, assumed to be a near direct descendant.
Giganotosaurus Gyga Giant Southern Lizard Giganotosaurus is the last of the three megatheropods, the largest terrestrial carnivores to walk the earth. Being very comparable in size to T Rex, they’re slightly longer but significantly thinner. Due to this, T Rex is still the largest due to size in this context being measured by weight. They ruled South America and the other continents connected. They’re also one of the final Carcharodontosaurs, a massively important Clade of theropods, being one of the main 5 groups they get separated into. Giganotosaurus stands as one of the final members of the pillars of theropods, only superseded by Mapusaurus, assumed to be a near direct descendant. Gyga’s have a rivalry with Rexxi’s, although not nearly as bitter as the Spina rivalry. Gyga’s and Rexxi’s respect each other. Their rivalry is one of equal strength instead of rage. While they do compete, and sometimes fight, Gyga’s are the only things on the island that could stand a fighting chance to take down a Rexxi. Despite coming close once however, there’s never been a lethal attack between them. Their fights have only ever led to one casualty, and it was a Gyga. Some of them hold bitterness over this, others understand the loss was fair. The bitterness comes from outside interference in the fight from a Terri. This is their second rivalry, and it’s a significantly more bitter one. Gyga’s attack Terri’s on sight, and aim specifically not to kill them, but to tear their claws off. Rexxi’s and Gyga’s see each other as equals and tend to leave the other’s territory alone, coexisting on different sides of the island with a fragile peace.

Ember, Little Eatie, Big Eatie, Rexy, Buck, Junior, Doe, and Bull

The Mythocene Rexes These eight Tyrannosaurus rex are the fiercest creatures on the mythocene island. If you dare see even a single one of them, it might be too late. In order from left to right; Ember- You can often find Ember asleep on a riverbank. It’s her favorite spot, although Dilla’s love to be nearby and mess with her. She’s curious, and tends to follow anything that drifts past her in the water. Little Eatie- the Daughter of Big Eatie, they’re never separated. Big Eatie- A caring mother, always with her daughter. After losing her mate, she clings onto her remaining family tightly. Do not mess with Little Eatie, or you will be eaten. Rexy- The leader of the pack. She’s survived battles with the biggest of the big, shrugging off raptors, giganotos, and even putting the Spino in its place on the island. Bit of a show off, loves to pose overlooking her territory and roar. Buck, Junior, and Doe- another family unit. Buck is still recovering from an incident involving amphetamines, and as such has a hair trigger. Doe often keeps him in check, especially around junior, but it suits them nicely if something dare happens to their little one. Junior still walks a little weirdly from a broken leg as a hatchling. Bull- Bull is mysterious, haunting Spinosaurus territory. Once being very close to buck and doe, she now wanders and torments her killer in any way she can. Has been occasionally spotted on the Cretaceous island messing with the spinosaurs there. Is the only one seen able to leave the mythocene island. #paleoart #jurassicpark #trex

Because I’m petty, I timed the exact times in seconds (as close as I could) for the screen time for raptors and dilopho in rebirth. Raptors are lap 1, dilos are lap 2. This is practically criminal.

While not technically a shark, Helicoprion is one of the most famous extinct shark like animals. While some impressions have been left of the body, 90% of Helicoprion skeletons are just the tooth whirl.

While some impressions have been left of the body, 90% of Helicoprion skeletons are just the tooth whirl. Early interpretations had all the teeth exposed, and very early ones had the teeth on the top jaw. Eventually enough material was uncovered to reveal that only half the wheel would be exposed, and the teeth would rotate in the mouth as they wore down, falling out when they got to the back of the whirl. Copri’s are brooding, gothic sharks. They stick to themselves, but sometimes will bunch up and wallow together. They seem kind of depressed, but all seem to like their style. Their spikes are incredibly sharp, and they grab prey and cut it up using the tooth whirl on their chest before eating it, allowing them to eat much larger prey than other similarly sized sharks.

Excuse me, there’s four? Four of these failures? The spino glazing is insane, this fucking thing was basically useless. Spinosaurus was a weak, pathetic little creature, WHY DOES EVERYONE ACT LIKE ITS AWESOME?? THIS BITCH WOULD DIE TO A CROCODILOMORPH HALF ITS DAMN SIZE.
