All kinds of bad out there. So here's four images of a Saddleback caterpillar (Acharia stimulea) I found in my garden yesterday.
May you find beauty this day, even if it's really tiny and spiny, but beautiful nonetheless.

Just a doodle I made.

Good day, sir. Would you let me talk to you about our lard and savory, the tlayuda?

Leopold left us almost two years ago. Once in a while I stumble into little souvenirs, greasy stains he left on the backside of couches and the walls, and I smile. Other, fewer times, when I'm painfully missing him, I scratch these old markings and the faintest smell of him slithers in my memory.

Took this photo about a week ago. It’s a 3.3m 300kg Crocodylus moreleti.
If you squint and look at it from a certain angle you can shit your pants as I did.
That thing is monstruous.

It’s not a warning, but it is probably a sensible recommendation.

In case you needed this, here’s a beautiful specimen of an Argiope argentata, or Silver Garden Spider. Possibly one of the prettiest spiders I’ve seen.

This commentary really hits the spot.

Every photon that hits you and is reflected from your body can escape Earth's gravity and continue its own voyage toward the stars; an image of you is traveling at the speed of light and will continue to do so long after humanity is gone. You will transcend space and time. This is a fact.

Everyone, go see Flow. Please, go see Flow.
That’s it.
Happy New Year!

Another doodle. Heavily inspired by Van Gogh. My daughter and I were trying out her Christmas gift of 200 watercolor brush tip pens.

Yesterday, while my wife was working, I had a drawing date with my daughter. Neither of us knew what to draw , so we started doodling and coloring random figures until something made sense. This is the outcome.

If it snapped, the farmed would have a real tough time trying to steer the yoke and use the plow. If he didn't have a replacement, he would still have to finish plowing, but the amount of work would be enormous.

What is a "barzón"? Also called a yoke-ring, it is a long and thick leather strap that goes tied to the beam which the farmer uses to steer the yoke while it's pulled by the ox to open the furrow and sow. The line of the song goes: "My yoke-ring snapped, but the yoke must keep going"

In the song El Barzón, we have a similar story, but not of coal miners, but farmers who weren't owners of the land, but were hired to work for a meager salary, and had a similar system as the miners in Earle Travis' song.

Sixteen tons talks about the life of coal miners in Kentucky. The awful working conditions and cruel "payment" system. From the Wikipedia entry on Sixteen Tons:

I want to write about “Sixteen Tons” and its Mexican sister “El Barzón”. Go, listen to them. They are the same thing and were composed around the same time; Sixteen Tons is from 1946 and El Barzón is from the mid-1930s-40s. Let's talk about them a little bit.

My sky tonight. All I can see is the moon and Venus, though.

Fun fact: in the old days Venus was called Lucifer (the bearer of light).

Fun fact II: The word “Lucifer” is not anywhere in the Bible, any bible of any denomination.

Fun fact III: I wanted to name my daughter Lucia Fernanda
