Pastors are supposed to call people out when they are not living to the greatest commandment. We’re not country club events managers. And I think Jesus looks at us and is so disappointed in the way we twist Scripture to make sure people keep tithing.

And I learned long ago, through thousands of conversations that it’s that same attitude and cognitive dissonance that drives a lot of other people away fast and hard

And those are almost always the same people that preach against abortion, homosexuality, women in leadership, and on and on, and when they’re called out, their answer is simply “I’m just preaching from the Bible!”
