This situation was not about the refusal of service. It was the refusal of basic human interaction. A purely F-you move. And that makes me sad. Because at no point was any effort made to even see if a conversation or at the very least a pure business transaction could be made.

Ok rant done.

Fine, I'll bite. A business has the freedom to refuse service provided that the refusal is not the result of discriminatory practice.

"Well, doesn't a business have the right to refuse service to whomever they choose?"

Fifth, really are we doing the whole wedding cake store argument? 🙄

Because, If the business in question had engaged in conversation with this faith leader they would have learned that this particular house of worship was going to pay for the temporary housing stay.

Third, and I know you're thinking it. "But if that call was to make arrangements for temporary housing, aren't you soliciting the business for a handout?"

No...

Second, hanging up before even getting to talk to the caller is not just rude, it is a big assumption that the call will cost the business something.

First, it's a local business being called by a local faith leader from a local house of worship... we can barely get folks to invite their neighbor to worship, we're not going to be soliciting your donation over the phone.

Now, I know there are some folks thinking, "Well it's the holidays and they are probably tired of getting hit up by the donation phone calls."
Ok, just stop, I'm calling bullshit on that.

When a local business hangs up as soon as they hear a hello over the phone, or refuses to answer when they see the caller ID shows the name of a house of worship. It's not a no that is being communicated it is an F-you!

When a pastor or other faith community leader (like myself) calls a local business that has rooms that people can stay in (ie a hotel, motel, apartment complex) please just say yes or no about making an arrangement for temporary housing...
