If he’s still considered clergy in good standing, then the denomination has oversight of him. LCMS does not allow for free agents, even with emeritus status. The local church only determines employment. Synod determines standing. So either they’re ignoring him or he’s allowed to serve.

There’s an extraordinary philosophy prof at Smith College named Elizabeth V. Spelman who argues that our images of “repair” have led us to limit who we think of as laborers, leaving out women, Black workers, and domestic spaces. www.smith.edu/people/eliza...
