I can’t say that I have. But my doctoral research is on the difference between understandings and expectations for clergy between held lay members and ordained ministers, using the lens of Martin Luther’s theology of the Office of Ministry… maybe I will figure it out once I am done ;)

The term comes from the Pulpit Supply List, the list of preachers who can fill in when the regular pastor is away. Usually the list consists of retirees and those serving in non-parish settings. It is a term that suggests wider church endorsement beyond a lay preacher. Someone with education.
