In the midst of some tough days, a wonderful and hopeful gift in the mail. Thank you @gracejisunkim.bsky.social! @orbisbooks.bsky.social #climatemergency #theology

When is it that you can be at the Wild Goose Festival when you can’t actually be at the festival? When a friend has a pic of you w/the event speaker, from a different event, pulled up on her phone. I couldn’t be there to see @gracejisunkim.bsky.social, but someone made sure I was still present.

Congratulations to my friend @gracejisunkim.bsky.social on the release of her latest book, "Earthbound," and for it receiving a "Starred New Release" notice in @erbks.bsky.social! #climatechange #theology

This is the beautiful inscription written in "Five Modern No Plays," the one signed edition in my collection of works by Yukio Mishima: "When you have gone your way, facing the setting crimson sun in the west, be mindful of the friends you left behind." #booksky #japaneseliterature

Sad that Greg Iles has died. Once I was in a Natchez bookshop buying some of his books & asked the clerk, “Does he ever come in to do signings?” She smiled & said, “You can ask him yourself. He’s standing right over there.” Very nice & gracious & in reply to my question he did do a signing. #booksky

I'm usually reading multiple books at any given time, but two of the ones I'm enjoying right now (admittedly heavy reads) are on Watergate and Chekhov. Quite the combination. #booksky

The death of Walter Brueggemann is, along with being a deep loss for his family, a tremendous loss in the world of Biblical scholarship and preaching. I pull from his work often and have a shelf filled with his books and commentaries. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Otis Moss III piercing me right in the heart (once again) with a powerful sermon at #FOH2025. “The God we serve is not shaped by the borders of a nation but is beyond.” / “Do you want comfort or to hold to your calling?” / “What happens when we hold our peace and refuse to speak?”

Day 2 of #FOH2025 began with a powerful sermon by The Rev. Dr. Melva Sampson on the topic “Don’t Shrink Back.” It’s very difficult to describe a sermon that soars, pulls back to moments of quiet, inspires, challenges, convicts & brings both laughter and tears. She most definitely brought the word.

Anna Carter Florence giving us a new way to view the story of Paul’s shipwreck from Acts 27 and, acknowledging that the stress and trauma we as preachers carry is cumulative and real, providing steps for rethinking the story to use for ourselves. #FOH2025

Due to the state of affairs here Rev. Allan Boesak made the difficult decision not to come to #FOH2025. But his sermon was 🔥. Two lines: The easy burden of Jesus is to tell the truth when it is more profitable to lie; We come to Jesus not to run away & hide but to turn around & face the world again.

A confession about my anger in recent days - but don’t worry: it ends with hope (and you’ll also find out why I’ve got a picture of country singer Lynn Anderson). My latest on Substack at tinyurl.com/32e6y6sx. #faith #politics #anger #hope

“We’re all working to get this issue resolved.” Does @senlisamurkwoski.bsky.social mean the phone system issue or the #ElonMusk issue? While I hope for the latter, I fully expect it’s the former. #anarchy #Constitutionalcrisis

Two services. Nearly 130 in the pews. Beautiful music. Smiles. Visitors. Hugs. Old friends. Joy. I’m incredibly grateful for all who put their gifts to work for our services. In this moment of quiet before I drive home, I’m feeling mighty blessed. #ChristmasEve #Episcopal #ministry
