If you haven’t read Octavia Butler’s novel recently (or at all), you might want to.
Parable of the Sower begins in 2024. I remember being so frightened when I read it in 1995. Horror had nothing on Lauren's nightmarish world.

Called someone I was talkin to at the time. "It's just a story!" And in 1995 when we were almost-but-not-quite 18, yes, it was just a story.
