What's tearing the UK apart is poverty, inequality, unrestrained capitalism, extortionate privatised public services, the cost of living (especially housing). And racism. It's not people fleeing war and famine.

Mine is a humanitarian perspective shaped by 9 years walking landings & pastorally supporting the often life-wounded souls that populate our prisons. From that perspective, my own penal research & current MoJ stats, prisons sometimes rehabilitate but too often also fail or make things worse.
