Illicit booze accounts for a very small fraction of the booze consumed in this country. I'm sure it would take a minute to create the infrastructure but I also imagine the legal, regulated, industry would displace a lot of the black market.

It would pay for itself and then some.

Reasonable points, but, as you say, they're already happening. Millions of people in the UK regularly use cannabis. We're already paying the costs, just not getting any benefits. We're putting money into the hands of gangs, and criminals, and wasting police time. Legalize it. Tax it.

And, especially, those who teach history. They have to keep repeating it, over and over again, and drawing diagrams about it on the board.
