Reviews of iconic wrestling storylines, show-by-show!

Current storyline: Sting VS The nWo
We are four minutes from the end of Nitro, and there has been no mention, and no sign, of Scott Hall.

Wait, here he is! To close the show, Hall comes to the desk. Hall implies that there might be more than one person coming to WCW. Sting challenges Hall, who says he has a “big surprise” next week.

Top rope Frankensteiner from Scott onto Sting, beautiful, no notes, 10/10.

The Giant comes to the ring, chokeslams Rick onto the concrete and low-bridges Scott, before going on to attack Lex Luger, his opponent for the Great American Bash.

Scott, Lex and Sting team up to expel Giant from the ring.

As the match gets underway, Randy Savage calls into Nitro to accept Mongo and Greene’s proposal to coach their team!

The Steiners are throwing Lex Luger all over the arena with a series of suplexes as Nitro takes a break.

We return with transphobe Rick Steiner still all over Lex before a hot tag.

Sleve McDichael and Kevin Greene put together a surprisingly entertaining package, where they decide to try and hire Randy Savage as their coach for the Great American Bash!

Main event time for the Tag Team Titles; Steiner Brothers vs Sting and Lex Luger. This should be great, fingers crossed.

Scott Norton comes to help his partner Ice Train and eats two chokeslams for his trouble.

Giant complains about the Hulk Hogan hype package from earlier.

Scott Norton’s in no state to wrestle Hugh Morrus, but Morrus comes out anyway. He beats on Norton, but gets pinned after a missed moonsault!

WCW World Title match next, and a lad I have never heard of, Ice Train, set to take on The Giant. I wonder who goes over here?

Btw, how must Ice Train feel about the impending arrival of another ice-themed gimmick in Glacier?

Giant goes over in a matter of seconds after a single chokeslam. Yikes.

Post-match, Ric Flair reiterates his “pro fucking Debra McMichael” position, and Bobby Heenan agrees to “coach” Flair and AA at the Great American Bash!

We get another Glacier teaser. Ah man, I am SO hyped for this!

This is followed by a highlight package of Hulk Hogan.

Bobby Heenan leaves the broadcast position to talk to Woman and Elizabeth. There is speculation as to whether Heenan will manager Anderson and Flair at the Great American Bash…

Woman intervenes and rakes the eyes of Robert Gibson. AA hits the DDT for the win after a marathon encounter. Good match

Ricky and Robert still move really well for their age. They get duelling figure-fours on Flair and Anderson, who retire to the outside to regroup as Nitro goes to break.

Classic heel tag work from Flair and AA. Clapping instead of tagging, holding hands for leverage on a submission. Vintage.

Bizarrely, though the match has already begun, a countdown appears in the corner of the screen, counting down to the second hour of Nitro. When the countdown reaches zero, a bunch of pyro goes off, mid-match, and Schiavone and Zbyszko give way to Eric Bischoff and Bobby Heenan on commentary. Weird!
September 24, 2023 at 12:20 PM
The first hour of Nitro set to close out with the Nitro debut of the Rock N Roll Express (referred to by Zbyszko as “stars from yesterday”, lol) taking on Ric Flair and Arn Anderson.

The Horsemen come to the ring wearing the jerseys of Kevin Greene and Steve McMichael. They look fairly ridiculous.
September 24, 2023 at 12:17 PM
We get a long video package of the feud between Chris Benoit and Kevin Sullivan. Knowing what we know now about Sullivan, Benoit and Nancy, this is difficult to watch.

Sullivan comes to the ring to take in the debuting Prince Iaukea. Taskmaster squashes him in a couple of minutes.

Duggan hits the Three-Point Stance, but before he can get the pin, Dave Taylor and Robert Eaton surround the ring. The distraction lets Regal pick up the rollup win.

Gene Okerlund cuts to footage of Regal slapping Sting earlier in the week. They face each other at the Great American Bash on June 16
September 24, 2023 at 12:08 PM
Steven Regal up next, and the question is; can he get a halfway decent match out of “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan?

We get the customary “USA” chant - Regal’s reactions are pure panto.

Two minutes in and there has been more posturing than wrestling. A considerable amount more. And about 50 “Ho”s from Duggan
September 24, 2023 at 12:03 PM
Gilbertti is obviously a prick but he is fairly over here. The pair botch a simple armdrag within the first ten seconds. Yeesh.

They do the “black wrestler has a hard head” spot, and then Pittman locks in the Code Red (armbar). Disco apparently submits, but it’s very unclear. Confusing. Poor match.
September 24, 2023 at 11:57 AM
WCW Tag Team Champions Lex Luger and Sting cut a promo on the Steiner Brothers, who they defend against later tonight. The Steiners enter and it descends into a shoving match.

Twitter gobshite Disco Inferno up next against Sgt. Craig Pittman. There’s a guy in the front row in a Gangstaz shirt!
September 24, 2023 at 11:54 AM
Tag match up next, with Power Plant graduates High Voltage (Ruckus and Chaos, ufff) debuting against the Faces of Fear.

Voltage are as green as their singlets but Meng and Barbarian carry well. Barbarian hits an INSANE belly to belly from the top rope before Meng picks up the pin with a thrust kick
September 24, 2023 at 11:48 AM
As Tenta and Big Bubba Rogers battle in the ring, Tony Schiavone has to make an on-air apology for the absences of Vader and Johnny B. Badd, who have signed with the Fed.

Tenta chases Rogers out of the ring with scissors, and he is subsequently counted out. You get the feeling this feud isn’t over.
September 24, 2023 at 11:42 AM
Scott Hall comes to the announce desk to confront Eric Bischoff. Hall makes the challenge to “Billionaire Ted” to get “three of his best” for a six-man tag at an undetermined point in the future.

And that’s it! The first Nitro of the arc goes off the air. How will WCW capitalise on this huge angle?
September 17, 2023 at 10:51 AM
Steiner hits a big dragon suplex off a missed Stinger Splash, which is the cue for both Lex Luger and Rick Steiner to come to ringside.

Luger intervenes on Sting’s behalf, when Steiner attempts a suplex on the floor. What was a great match devolves into a schmoz and a no contest. Fans furious lol
September 17, 2023 at 10:47 AM
Main event time! Sting, who has the black hair but isn’t quite Crow Sting yet, VS Scott Steiner, who is fucking HUGE but isn’t quite Big Poppa Pump yet.

Interesting face VS face dynamic. Both men in their absolute prime. Steiner attacking with throws and impact moves; Sting is quick and agile.
September 17, 2023 at 10:39 AM
Regal picks up the win after a failed monkey flip attempt from Alex Wright leads to a bridging pin. A really good, stiff, horrible, European style match. Hook it to my veins.

Regal in the post-match refers to Wright as “junior Adolf”. Was a different time.
September 16, 2023 at 9:03 AM
Regal’s facials are second-to-none. Nitro cuts to commercial just as Wright hits a plancha to the floor. Heenan softly intones: “You can’t pin him there, you… idiot”

We get a promo for Glacier! Ahhh yeah this is going to be top top nonsense!

Back from commercial, Wright and Regal are stiff as hell
September 16, 2023 at 8:58 AM
Ahhh yeahhh here we go! Steven Regal vs Funboy Alex Wright! This won’t last long, he has to get back to Tanzcentrum in Stuttgart in time to see Kraftwerk.
