Finally! A leader emerges from the mire--Tim Walz (Minnesota Gov & Kamala Harris's former running mate). This native Nebraskan, former teacher, & democrat is headed out to Red States where Republican bootlickers dare to go. I don't know who I respect more--Walz or Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.

My word for the new year is “rise” as in “Face Everything And Rise.” I just heard this acronym for “fear” that can be traced to the late Zig Ziglar. The idea is to push on.

Book flood time! It’s holiday tradition in Iceland to have a book gift exchange called Jolabokaflod. Downloading eBooks is my style, but a cold winter’s night is a great time to cozy up to a good book however you like it. I’ll take a beach read by the sea.

We need STEM innovation that benefits humanity. A diverse workforce steeped in humanities will infuse creativity, critical thinking, & communication into STEM. Humanities are things that make us human: language arts, performing & visual arts, history, philosophy, religion.

Omaha Public Schools Board members must visit secondary schools to solve high chronic absenteeism. Remember Principal Joe Clark from the Lean on Me movie? No consequences & social promotion results in chaos. Students & staff crave the safety of structure & high expectations.

Sokol was founded in Prague in 1862. The idea was to have falcon strength of mind & body to achieve freedom. Although oppressive regimes banned the organization at times, Sokol gyms still exist around the world. People of all ages participate. Stay strong in tough times!
