Retire #44
@retirenumber44.bsky.social
I bleed Red amidst a sea of Dodger Blue.
I couldn't even get all of the guys who made the postseason roster. Not sure if that says more about me or the roster, though.

I think tonight was exhibit A of “situational shitting”

Under .500 since the All-Star Break.

Under .500 since the trade deadline.

Not a contender. Not even close.

That was managerial malpractice
October 1, 2025 at 3:56 AM
How can you not put Benson in here?
October 1, 2025 at 3:53 AM
Mercy rule kicks in at 10-0, right?
October 1, 2025 at 2:59 AM
That’s as consistent as you can get. No peaks and valleys, right?

My 40th season as a fan.

Only my third chance to see them play in person in the postseason.

Hopefully my two-game winning streak will continue!

I’m sure this will work out just as well as having Singer start two of the final six games of the season
September 30, 2025 at 4:46 AM
Dumbest Francona move of the season (and that’s a long, long list) was not having Greene start on normal rest on Tuesday so he’d be starting today as well
September 28, 2025 at 9:22 PM
I wish there was a way to see how this lineup affected the various playoff odds.

The question now is whether Espinal will get into the game before Benson/Stevenson/Stewart.
September 28, 2025 at 4:08 PM
I think the bigger pitching decision to question is why Singer started on Tuesday instead of Greene, which put Singer on track to start #162 as well
September 28, 2025 at 1:52 AM
Absolutely crazy to fathom that if the Mets lose tomorrow and the Reds win, they're in.

(Big if, I know. But still.)
September 27, 2025 at 2:32 AM
No clue why they even bothered calling up Stewart
September 27, 2025 at 1:08 AM
Francona manages for tomorrow instead of doing what it takes to win today. It's why he didn't juggle the rotation and start Greene on Tues (which would have lined him up to pitch #162). No use planning for the playoffs if you're going to be watching them from home. Plenty of time for TS to rest then
September 25, 2025 at 4:37 PM
He looked like he was swinging hard last night. Could be me seeing what I wanted to see, but maybe he realized he was getting bad advice and that the only way to win games is by scoring more runs than the other guys
September 24, 2025 at 9:14 PM
Four guys on the bench tonight with OPS above .700. Two of those are above .800. Meanwhile, three guys in the starting lineup tonight are sub-.700. One is below .600. Does Tito want to win?
September 23, 2025 at 11:28 PM
The other reason I'd rather see Greene pitch on Tues is that I'd rather have him lined up to pitch Game 162 as well.
September 22, 2025 at 11:18 PM
Fun perhaps, but I disagree with wasting potentially the last start of the season by their best pitcher on a game where the offense will likely struggle to score even more than usual. Not that I'm pro-rolling over and playing dead on Wed, but I'd much rather see Greene pitch on normal rest on Tues
September 22, 2025 at 9:32 PM
That was very well-written and captures the pain of rooting for an org focused more on celebrating past wins than taking proper steps to win in the present. I still have a hard time believing they'll play in Oct - and if they face the Dodgers, it likely won't be for long - but I guess it's progress?
September 22, 2025 at 4:31 PM
I thought the same thing (and hated myself for wishing he was playing tonight instead of Stewart)
September 19, 2025 at 12:44 AM
It was over once the trade deadline hit.
September 4, 2025 at 2:00 AM
Shameful and embarrassing. Seriously, why do we continue to put ourselves through this? It’s the definition of insanity. Personally, this season has felt more frustrating than any of the dreadful “rebuild” years. At least sucking felt like it had purpose then. Now, it just sucks.
September 4, 2025 at 12:41 AM
How common is it (whether nowadays or in the past) for field managers to call the shots re: rosters? If true, Francona is even worse than I thought (and I didn't have a high opinion of him in the first place). Really seems like the Reds are playing checkers and content taking knives to gun fights
August 28, 2025 at 10:24 PM
'23 seemed like they didn't know what they were doing. '25 felt different -- that instead of doing what they needed to do, they stubbornly did the opposite. Kind of like the Monty Python skit about the barber who was scared to cut hair, there seems to be an aversion to doing what it takes to win
