Further, they are human beings who are also under extreme stress and workload. Some are US federal staff. We try and alert authors about delays; these are mainly because of all the chaos created by awful political decisions crossed with a small pool of reviewers in a specialized field.

If you are unsure of anything, please ask me. If a decision puzzles you or even infuriates you, a clear query to me as EIC is the best path. However, please don't immediately assume something sinister happened. Mistakes from reviewers & coordinating editors do happen - they are human beings.

For Restoration Ecology, the 'editorial office' is solely Valter Amaral (full time Managing Editor) and me as EIC (which works out to about 0.05 FTE in my job as a prof). Yes, some journals have big offices/many paid staff. We don't. We will always help you with article contents & decisions.
