"Don't complain, this is free."
How's the new segment? I assume it's "Yuki's Revenge?"

Weirdly, he said his favorite movie of the 2010's was The Social Network a few years ago. I wonder what happened to that in his personal ranking?

Quentin Tarantino: The Social Network is 'hands down' the best film of 2010s
After naming Dunkirk runner-up in January, the director has revealed his top pick from the last decade as David Fincher’s Facebook drama, which ‘crushes all the competition’

It's terrifying how much standards have collapsed for even the most basic things in media, stuff that wouldn't seem like it would cost much money. Here, for example, is the synopsis for The Godfather (one of the most popular movies of all time!) on Amazon Prime (a company that has more $ than God!)

Reminds me of Ridley Scott's commentary on Alien (I'm paraphrasing from memory): "My science advisor told that this planet wouldn't have an atmosphere. I told him, my planet does, mate, because otherwise the spaceship model is going to look fucking terrible."

this industry dismantled itself and is just flailing. everything looks like dogshit, people aren't going to new movies, movie stars don't drive tickets anymore, & streaming completely ruined the accessible exclusivity that used to accompany the theatrical experience. absolute morons.

Ha, no I mean what if the person who wrote the list was Brie Larson (with a secret burner account).

What if it *was* Brie Larson.

That's what I figured, just wanted to see if it was streaming anywhere. Thanks.

Yeah I thought the same thing: his character flaw in the first movie is that he's too sensitive to send out his demo tape to producers, then in the second/third it's that he's too much of a hothead......

Haha I once wrote an article for Men's Health where they asked me to explain "What order should you watch the Bond series in?" and I just used the piece to say that they don't care about continuity at all, just watch whatever

"Uh hey guys, you know what's really masculine? The concept of books over a 60-year period of time. No, I can't name specifics."

(Or at least, that was my takeaway from the one episode I watched. Long story short: I used to work at TV Guide, they'd send us the upcoming network pilots on DVD, we'd hold watch parties all summer long checking out stuff.)

That show fascinated me because it was legitimately "what if Mad Men had zero moral ambiguity about advertising and thought that successfully selling McDonald's was the zenith of our culture."

Dumb question: does anyone know a good way to navigate these episodes? It doesn't let me search for individual shorts on Tubi, so I'm still looking for stuff like Fast and Furry-ous or The Great Piggy Bank Robbery.

Yeah absolutely - I doubt it's the cause of this trend, but it might help explain why there hasn't been more pushback as it's continued. There's a lot of people out there who basically do not experience large crowds of humanity any more!

Great video! One thing I'll add: I wonder if the depopulation of modern blockbusters is connected to the fact that people experience less and less face-to-face human interaction in their daily lives, thanks to things like WFH, online shopping, streaming most of their entertainment, etc.
