I'm gonna keep poking at things because boy oh boy it would be nice to be able to work without ads and AI nonsense being shoved in my face all day while I'm just trying to make a game!

But that machine also didn't have the error about the `LinkedTarget` stuff. 🤷

Yikes. Well, I'm gonna be real bummed if I can't work on Linux. The super weird thing is that I *have* successfully checked in lighting builds from a different Linux machine, and those were all .umap assets too. I wonder if it had something to do with placing new assets in the map files.

Yiiiikes. That sure does sound like what's going on here.

I did notice that there were a few files that didn't get caught by the Linux check-in, but I'm pretty sure they were all generated Linux files in the root/Binaries folder, which I don't think should matter on Windows. Although, now that I mention it, I should probably try a reconcile...

The .sln files weren't touched as far as I can tell. Only .uasset and .umap files.

The really weird thing is nothing got checked into Perforce that seems likely to have caused this - it was several Quest DataAssets, one DataTable, and 3 levels (well, 12 levels because it was the main map, the lighting map, the placed assets map, and the blockout map for each level)

Unreal crashes on an `Unhandled Exeption: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION` but none of the rest of the log has anything particularly useful. It complains about not finding files, but this seems to be a result of the crash, not the cause.

It prompted me about rebuilding the project and I clicked the "Yes" button to let it do its thing. It seemed to have worked and I was able to work on Linux and add some quests and tweak some levels. I checked that work into Perforce and now if anyone on Windows syncs to that changelist,

Yeah, I have a feeling this is a "Ryan did something dumb" situation. So, I opened the project on Linux (it's been pretty much only Windows before this) and it said something about `LinkLoadTarget` missing.

Until I see *genuine* gameplay, I'm going to continue to assume it's vapor ware
