Usually sleep apnea means you're really sleepy and fall asleep too easily, but my wife's got central sleep apnea and it kept her from sleeping for years until she started using a BiPAP.

Have you ever been tested for sleep apnea? My wife had the same problem and it actually has corrected itself with treatment. Might not be that, but it's possible.
