We need to talk about last night at ICE in Portland.

So much of last night was bait, but not in a way I've seen before.

I specifically want to talk about the removal of Joey Gibson.

We used to have journalists whose beat was the life of their community, who took their bikes around the city to report on what was happening and wore out the soles of their shoes chasing stories. And if we had that once, we can have it again.

Literally all he did was quote someone. Defining criticism of the government as treason is what authoritarians do. Turning a publicly funded news outlet into a state media propaganda machine is what authoritarians do.

Protests happen when they happen, if you can only show up on certain days show up on those days, if no protest is available on your dates then organize one, open your own spaces. Protests need to be daily, but not everyone is expected to show up daily. Do what you can when you can. Just show up.
