I agree, I really loved how how dark PoE was! There's some traces of that in Avowed, moments of it, but overall... eh. Eager to hear your thoughts LOL.

I found Avowed to be extremely 'safe' in that it just seemed like they were afraid to do much with it story-wise. Definitely not as dark as PoE. Just my opinion though! It's pretty and I did have fun with the combat.
