The pandemic accord, therefore, must include recovery if we’re serious about resilience and being better prepared for the next one.

As we wrote in BMJ last year, recovery is a vital part of pandemic preparedness, yet it is still missing from the accord.

Proper pandemic preparedness requires accountability, protecting the vulnerable, and rebuilding trust.

Without addressing pandemic recovery, we risk ongoing societal harm and reduced readiness for future crises.

That's why recovery must be a central part of the treaty.

The treaty focuses on health system recovery—a vital piece—but what about societal recovery?

Trust in science has eroded, inequities widened, and economic impacts linger. Ignoring these issues undermines resilience and preparedness for future pandemics.

While @who.int declared the COVID-19 emergency over, the threat isn't gone. We're navigating recovery without robust guidance, leaving vulnerable groups unprotected.

Millions face #longCOVID, persistent risks, and systemic challenges in accessing care. Recovery is urgent.

We recently relaunched @pandemicaidnet, a network that focuses on pandemic preparedness, prevention & responses.

The network was founded at the end of '20 in response to the COVID19 pandemic and has since widened its scope to all potential pandemic-causing infectious diseases.
