Interestingly, 'stress' scores relatively low. That is surprising as many people seem to complain about it in the pre-Christmas run up (advent), including the annual commercial Xmas-brain-washing everywhere. That is why I prefer the Easter festivities, as they have been commercialized much less.

Hi from Germany. Theoretically, I still have distant relatives in Snohomish County (if they haven't relocated in the last 100 years; 2 great-grand-uncles emigrated to WA). I hope their decendents get through this OK.

Unser 14 Jahre alter Corsa kommt in die Jahre. Der naechste Wagen wird ein vollelektrischer Kompaktwagen. Wir sind auf den neuen E-Polo gespannt. Wenn VW es verkackt, dann wird unser naechstes Auto wohl ein BYD Dolphin werden.

Well, us Germans have some experience with different flavours of totalitarian regimes (e.g. GESTAPO, STASI). The direction the US is currently moving in, does not encourage me to visit. I miss the old US, we could look up to.

Fuer mich war die wissenschaftliche Karriere ebenfalls ein "Blindflug". Man sollte das Selbstlob allerdings auch nicht uebertreiben. Bei der Begutachtung eines Drittmittelantrages stellte ich letztens fest, dass eine W3-Professorin ihre #FirstGen Herkunft noch im Lebenslauf hat. Irgendwann ist gut.

Often I put my figures into an empty Word doc first and then attach it at the end of my main manuscript with insert-here-statements in the main text. That is the old school approach.

Tough luck. I feel sorry for you. Have made similar experiences and over time developed a compulsion to copy my current drafts to a cloud folder (and occasionally a second laptop too) after the tiniest of changes. Also, realised that sometimes a rewrite comes out better than the original draft.

With the exception of those historical periods, when Pope and Ruling Class were identical (at least here in Europe). At makes sense for the current Pope to take a stance in favour of humanity.

I go the other way. I shop at least two identical items so that I can wear fresh clothings but will always look the same. Basically my civilian uniform. Guess it makes me look stupid and completely without a clue during my talks ;)

Das tut mir leid fuer Dich. Trotzdem nur 11 Monate ist echt gut. Ich bekomme in der Regel erst Rueckmeldung, wenn ich schon laengst vergessen haben, dass ich mal eine Bewerbung hingeschickt hatte (min. 2 Jahre).
