BioRender is offering some great opportunities for researchers during this difficult time for scientific funding. It’s worth applying!

Enjoy some photos from our recent sampling trip 🦈 featuring a blacktip and juvenile sandbar. Wonderful day despite the rainy weather!

#SOTTV presents “Out of Sight Is Not Out of Mind,” a paid film about Oregon State University Ecotoxicology & Environmental Stress Lab: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsT6...
Out of Sight is Not Out of Mind – Ecotoxicology & Environmental Stress Lab, Oregon State University
As an interdisciplinary research group, the Lab focuses on stressors like microplastics, nanoplastics, pesticides, and other emerging contaminants. Their mission is to mechanistically understand how these stressors impact wildlife and connect these insights to human health concerns. Collaborating with regulatory agencies, the Lab works on science-based solutions and policy changes to mitigate environmental impacts. While primarily studying chemical stressors on aquatic organisms, they also explore broader contexts such as climate change, terrestrial impacts, and ways to reduce microplastic pollution at the source. In their research, the team delves into the complexities of plastic exposure and toxicity in various organisms. By analyzing microplastics through morphological characteristics and advanced techniques like Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), they uncover the chemical identities of particles in the environment. A key focus is on studying microplastics in coastal food webs, including the alarming discovery of gray whales ingesting millions of microplastics daily. Through toxicity tests...

We had the whole gang at the SOT @sotoxicology.bsky.social annual meeting this year! We had five trainees present posters and one platform presentation by our PI. Two of our lab members even received awards from the Southeastern Chapter of SOT for their poster presentations. Lots of science and fun!
