Now that it’s clear that Harris’s well-run campaign underperformed Clinton, can we end the myth that some failing of her campaign strategy or “likability” was the primary reason for her loss rather than sexism and Comey’s shenanigans? It seems a large number of men just won’t vote for a woman here.

Today’s project: a wheelchair for my bunny whose arthritis is too bad for him to hop anymore.

Replaced the membrane on the speaker I finished last week. Turned out to be a lateral move in terms of performance, but it looks cool and I learned some more.

Finished the planar speaker. It is a massive improvement over my last: Spl measures decently, though distortion is still pretty bad. I don't understand why bass levels aren't worse than they are, but won't complain about that. Too bad bluesky doesn’t do video directly, may link to one later.

After months of break finally back to this speaker. Unfortunately, I tore a piece of the ribbon when transferring to the Mylar sheet. I patched it with some aluminum tape and it looks like it will work, though it’s kinda ugly. gonna finish as I want to measure the performance. Will redo if good.

The cutting mat I ordered over a month ago finally scanned locally so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. As such I’ve prepped the magnets for my speaker in a configuration for a single full size foil cut.

Assembled the frame for my mkIII diy planar speaker. I’m going to do a first pass where I use two separate foil traces as I can’t cut out a full size one yet.

This is the basic layout of my next diy planar speaker attempt. I don’t have a big enough cutting mat right now so I can’t actually cut a foil trace this size right now unless I turn it sideways and cut multiple parts.

Planar speaker finished successfully. This is my second attempt at building one of these and I’m reusing the magnets and backing from my first attempt. It’s a huge improvement from the original but still does not sound good. My ribbons sound much better

Successfully transferred the trace I cut earlier to Mylar and it lined up beautifully with the magnets, but when gluing to the frame of the speaker I very slightly misaligned things in a way that would have caused a short so I had to discard todays work.

Successful cuts for my planar speaker. The foil trace is 1mm wide. Whole thing is about 27cm long. 8ohms resistance, so I’ll be able to direct drive with no issue as was a goal.

Did some test cutting yesterday of foil traces for my planar speaker. Patterns are from the app I wrote over the weekend. Had some foil tears, but I’m pretty excited that the cheap cutting machine I bought is capable of this.

One of several tests I made cutting out path traces for planar speakers on a Brother ScanNCut.

Weekend project—need to cut out path traces for planar speakers and don’t have any CAD software for it, so I wrote a little interpreter for a lisp-ish language and an app to be able to programmatically create the SVGs for cutting.
