The announcement that the Federal army had occupied Fredericksburg was premature. The Confederate still held possession of the place yesterday with a force to dispute the passage of the river. It is believed that it is not the intention of the Federal commanders to cross the river immediately. General Burnside arrived at Falmouth, opposite Fredericksburg on Wednesday, and established his headquarters there.

Very little news of interest has been received this week. The occupation of Fredericksburg, on the south side of the Rappahannock by the enemy, is about the only event of note that has occurred in Virginia. Jackson's whereabouts is not definitely known. Gen. Lee is said to be endeavoring to draw Burnsides, (who now commands the Yankee army,) as far as possible from his base of supply, so that in the event of a battle and victory the enemy would have a long retreat through a barren country.

London, Nov. 15—(AP)—Plus fours have been barred in the London banks where the executive officials objected to the custom of some of the clerks who have been coming to work on Saturday morning dressed for the golf course when the banks close at noon, in one bank the following sign was posted: "You are training for bankers, not bunkers." The banks directors solemnly decided that sport clothes did not give the proper air of dignity to a bank, and accordingly forbade the appearance of clothing suggesting putting greens.

Jas. Williams, a citizen of Fauquier county, was recieved in Richmond on charge of being concerned in horse stealing, barn burning, and general rascality, acting as a spy and informer to the Federals. By order of General Winder he was consigned to Castle Thunder. Alexandria Gazette, Alexandria, VA

The St. Louis Republican, says: A day or two since, the police found a boy in military rig, barefooted, dirty and ragged, wandering about the Levee, and supposing him to be a young Levee thief, he was conducted to the calaboose and locked up. Subsequently, however, he attracted the attention of the Chief of Police, Cousins, and, on being questioned by the Chief, gave ,a straightforward and interesting account of himself.

New York, Nov. 7.—Capt. Vickery, of the bark Mary Baker, of Yarmouth, N., reports that on the 30th October, latitude 41, longitude 09:30, he saw two ships. From the description of her, he believes one to have been the pirate Alabama, and that she was chasing and rapidly gaining on the other, an American vessel. The following is the official dispatch of Brigadier General Kelly, relative to the stolen cattle in Hardy county, Virginia CUMBERLAND, Md Oct. 29. Brigadier General H. B. MARCY, Chief of Staff: I ordered Lieutenant Colonel Quick, of the 23d Illinois, to take the Ringgold cavalry and two guns of Rourk's battery, and pursue the party that took the cattle in Hardy county.

Andrews, giving an interesting account of a recent scout of a portion of this regiment, we publish it, as well for the gratification of the friends of the regiment, as to place the gallantry of its men in a proper light, which has been at times unjustifiably assailed…

Alexandria, November 3.—Most of the accounts relative to the attack upon the train at Manassas have been exaggerated. The following is the true version:— It was about three o'clock on Friday afternoon when the train passed over Bull Run bridge. It proceeded about a mile beyond, when it was thrown from the track. No obstruction was apparent, and the manner in which the Confederates accomplished the fiendish trick was by cutting off the heads of the spikes which confined the rails in position, and undermining the track.

Information was received yesterday that a detachment of the 13th Virginia Cavalry, on Friday last, attacked one of the enemy's railroad trains, near Manassas Junction, destroyed it, and captured ninety six prisoners. It was this affair, doubtless, that gave rise to the rumor of a heavy engagement in that direction. The prisoners were at Gordonsville last evening, and will probably arrive in Richmond to-day.

A correspondent of the Free Press, writing from the 13th Reg., Washington Oct. 14th, speaking of their treatment while in Baltimore, says: This morning as the boys were waiting for breakfast a man appeared selling apple turnovers, and many bought of him. In a few minutes pounded glass was found in one of the turnovers, and the peddler was speedily pelted for a mile with his own turnovers.

The New Orleans Delta contains the following information, which chimes with the reformation progressing in North Carolina: “Twenty guerillas from the country above, on the right bank of the river, came down to the city last evening on the steamer Iberville, and voluntarily gave themselves into the hands of the authorities here. They had become disgusted with the life of outlawry which they had been leading, were ragged and dirty, and poorly armed.

Oct. 16.—(AP)—The jury in the case of Dr. Israel E. Rudman, who has been on trial in the superior court for three days on an indictment for abortion, tonight at 9 o’clock brought in a verdict of guilty, after being out 11 hours.
