Representing House District 56: Clawson, Troy, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Bloomfield Township
This week I introduced a resolution declaring November as Adoption Month. People sometimes tell my husband and I that we're special because we adopted, but I disagree. The truth is that our daughters adopted us. They gave us the family we longed for and the life and love we cherish #mileg

Unsurprisingly, the Republican-controlled House refused to adopt my resolution defending Michigan's naturalized citizens. After all, Speaker Hall defended a member of his caucus who claimed that Michiganders of non-European descend cannot be loyal to the US. #mileg #resist

My district is home to thousands of naturalized US citizens from India, China, Albania, and Iraq, and I will not let the Trump regime insult or intimidate them. Thank you to my House Dem colleagues, as well as prominent naturalized citizens from my district, for joining me today.

Today I am calling on the US Department of Justice to end their targeting and demonization of peaceful naturalized citizens. Naturalized citizens are NOT second-class citizens, and I will not stand idly by while the Trump administration tries to take away their rights. #mileg #resist

Thanks to pressure from Democratic governors, Trump has agreed to obey the law and fund SNAP throughout his shutdown. But he's only agreed to fund it at half its normal level, because he wants as many Americans as possible to starve while he builds his ballroom. #trumpshutdown #mileg

I am deeply saddened to learn that Jeanne Stine, Troy's beloved former mayor, passed away yesterday. Mayor Stine served her community for decades and made history as the first woman to be elected Mayor of Troy.

Republicans in Washington are taking advantage of the government shutdown - which they started - to take food off the tables of 1.3 MILLION Michiganders. #mileg

The great @staterepsteph.bsky.social and I agree on 99% of things, but here's where we disagree: U of M is winning tomorrow night!! #GoBlue

The Michigan House's U of M alumni showed some school spirit before Saturday's game. So did the other school's alumni, but WE know we're the Leaders and Best. #GOBLUE!! 💙💛

The Trump regime's decision to halt SNAP benefits will mean thousands of children and seniors across Michigan going hungry. I am outraged for them. And what makes this situation all the more outrageous is that it was completely preventable. (1/3) #mileg

Women with disabilities earn just 56 cents for every dollar earned by non-disabled men. On this Disabled Women's Equal Pay Day, let's commit to closing the wage gap and removing barriers to success. If I've learned anything as Chair of the Disability Caucus, it's that systems need to change. #mileg

I stand in solidarity with SEIU healthcare workers at the Optalis nursing home in Bloomfield Township as they negotiate for fair wages. Optalis' owners must bargain in good faith and treat their workers with the respect they deserve. #mileg

My statement on the continuing resolution passed yesterday. While we aren't out of the woods yet, I am proud of House Democrats for standing together. Due to our efforts, I am confident the final budget will avoid many of the dangerous cuts proposed by House Republicans. #mileg
