3️⃣ Match the model to the need. When speed and accuracy matter, a single high-quality run can justify higher energy use. For simple, repeatable tasks, lighter models are more efficient.

We’ve been gifted with incredible technology—let’s make wise choices that respect both our time and our planet. 🌱

1️⃣ Pick the right model for the job. Don’t use a #reasoning #model for simple lookups.
2️⃣ Batch or group requests in production to reduce per-task #energy use.

𝐒𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲?
We need to be mindful—not every task requires the biggest model. The backend energy isn’t free; it’s part of our environmental footprint. Let’s use AI intentionally. 🌍

#Image generation requires ~1.7 Wh per task. Video generation, however, is far more energy intensive ~ 115 Wh to create a short, low-quality 6-second video (@ 8 fps).
To put these numbers into perspective, charging a mobile phone uses around 15 Wh, while charging a laptop requires about 60 Wh.

According to the latest #IEA report on AI in the Energy Sector, #GPU energy consumption across different model tasks under test conditions deserves our attention:
#Text generation using a small language model takes around 0.3 Wh.
A medium-sized model consumes about 5 Wh.
