If you've already got a detergent buildup, using a washing machine cleaner (like Active, Affresh, Lemi Shine, Glisten, etc.) can help, but you may have to run several of them back to back to fully get rid of it all.

As for the gasket, if it already has mold, the only SAFE way to fix it is to replace the gasket. I would recommend ONLY having it replaced by an appliance repair technician, as there’s a high risk of flooding your laundry room if done incorrectly. That's why preventative maintenance is important!

TO GET RID OF A DETERGENT BUILDUP, you need to run a washing machine cleaner through your machine (according to package instructions) Depending on how bad the buildup is, you may have to run SEVERAL cleaning cycles to get rid of it. The easiest way to prevent this? Use less laundry sauce!
