3️⃣ Support could come in different forms. Young people called for better regulation, effective content moderation, more parent involvement, consistent school policies and safer digital spaces where they can be themselves.

2️⃣ Platforms are poorly regulated. Algorithms and online advertising often encourage addictive behaviours, intensify consumerism and leave young people frustrated by the manipulation and lack of control. Yet, some are finding ways to regain agency.

We heard that:
1️⃣ Constant access to digital technologies is a double-edged sword. While it connects them to opportunities and communities, it can also amplify pressure, misinformation and overwhelm. For them, social media is essential to communication, making it hard to step away.

What we heard was fascinating and shows that while this generation may have been born into a connected world, being digital by default is not a choice they would necessarily make for themselves or others.

Cory Doctorow has a word for that kind of 'do less and get less' approach to AI adoption: futurism.com/future-socie...

If it ends up getting fumbled, it'll be myopic money grabs that do it, not the tech itself.

Delighted that @j-amesmarriott.bsky.social has identified the same problem. Digital ID compounds smartphone dystopia

Digital ID compounds smartphone dystopia
Just as the world is understanding how damaging they are for our brains and souls, this plan makes them compulsory

It’s reference to supporting people who are older or can’t use a device that grinds my gears. Listening to GenZ talk about their digital lives, I heard many say they want to be free of devices. I guess encouraging young people to be device free is just when it suits rather than a consistent view
