My off the cuff thought is I don't think it would be a bad experience especially since it's a 1v1 cube. I wouldn't necessarily want to hand it to someone super new to magic just because the visual clarity of the board state will be lower but I think it's an idea worth exploring

If you're asking logistics
If the cube is sleeved you can keep a dry erase marker with the cube
If you're asking balance I've played a friends battle box before that was a separate land 'deck' that was one of each guild gates. It was fun but puts a lot of skill expression into land sequencing
