and i didn't realize until recently that canton MA is named that bc folks from New England were heading over to trade with China in the 1700s??? like. there is so much to history that is so interesting beyond "some dudes fought and killed each other" i am right there with you on that

oh man, learned about this from seeing Windtalkers when i was a lot younger. such a neat story. I also love learning about the interactions of groups from disparate parts of the world - like how did sweet potatoes get to polynesia by 1000AD when they're native to south america......
