If the TTFB of your WordPress site is over 500 ms, you should dig into the server setup first.

The TTFB basically tells me how long it takes for the server to process the request to render a given URL. It’s super important to test this uncached.

In terms of performance optimization, there are three things I will always do:
0. Favor Edge Caching over just local Full-Page caching with @getNitroPack and @Cloudflare APO being my favorites.
1. Install @_perfmatters and use their Script Manager heavily.

Enable context-aware web performance optimization with Obs.js.

It uses Navigator and Battery APIs to access users' connection strength and battery status to allow for this optimization. Pretty neat.

Debugging CSS is now easier. Hovering over a CSS property in Chrome DevTools will not only reveal its intended function but also display its Baseline status.

In an effort to publish important topics on my blog rather than just on social media, I've written a post about when to use Custom Database Tables in WordPress.

I know it's still a ways until Black Friday, but right now is a perfect time to prepare for it.

@Kinsta.com did a great “this what we learned from Black Friday” recap. It’s particularly geared towards e-commerce sites, but there’s lots of learning points for everyone.

Ben Marshal wrote about the View Transitions API. It is a browser-native tool for creating seamless animations between page or UI state changes.

It simplifies what used to require complex CSS or JavaScript, making smooth transitions accessible and efficient.

At every single #WCEU, @danmaby.com and I get asked to take a picture with the two of us. Basel was no different.

So, to answer your questions, as we’re sure you have them:

- Yes, Dan is slightly taller than I am
- No, we are not, in fact, brothers
- Yes, we have checked this with our fathers

Pretty exciting news to share today. I don't always share with whom I'm partnering, but this time, it's special.

I'm partnering with Greyd.Suite to consult them on strategic and technical topics.

Eduardo Villão just launched WP Since! It’s a cool tool that scans your WordPress plugin and checks if it’s truly compatible with the minimum WP version you declared.

It detects used functions, classes, methods, hooks, and warns you if anything requires a newer version.

WordPress just level-upped to 22!

Hat tip to everyone who’s nudged pixels, wrangled hooks, translated strings at 02:17, organized events, or dropped that one legendary “fix typo” commit.

Open source is still our favorite group project. Let’s keep forking reality together. 🛠️✨
