You live in this dream world where everyone will wear high quality masks that fit correctly and cover their mouth and nose. In the real world (and we saw this happen!) most of the masks will be dirty, not fit correctly, and not cover mouth and nose. Why hold onto this fantasy?

Did you actually care to look at what it can do before spouting this drivel? Or if it doesn’t pass your personal bar of usefulness it is crappy for everyone?

The problem is some people are asking for that. IMO masking should be a personal decision. I wear them in hospitals but I don’t want to force that on anyone else. You just end up with no one wearing them correctly anyway.

A lot of people are saying the same thing about vaccines right now with just as much conviction as you. Food for thought.

Good for some things, bad for some things. Misused often. Name me any tool in human history that is unequivocally good and can’t be used for evil. And like every other tool, it will evolve and improve over time.

In my field (market research) it can analyze large quantities of cross tabulations and spot patterns and correlations that people would never be able to find even given unlimited time. It can also automate follow-up analysis to answer the “why” part. It has extraordinary value.

It’s a tool like any of those other tools. Teachers used to say don’t use Encarta to do your homework when I was at school. Better surely to adapt to the new reality. Good luck holding out.

Isn’t this is a bit like saying don’t use the internet in the early 2000s, or don’t use a PC in the 1980s, or don’t use a ball point pen in the early part of the 1900s? Why are you fighting technology advancement?

Is it possible you’re wrong about this? I’ve spent a lot of time in hospitals over the past 2 years (wife had cancer) and no one from staff to nurses to doctors masks. Maybe it’s really required?

Can you think of any new technology in human history that cannot be used for both immense good and immense bad?

Also true that technology advancement is the best tool we have as a species to lift people out of poverty.
