In December two new LNG terminals in the US started operation - bringing their total number to eight.

Last year US LNG export capacity hence increased to ~1600TWh - and is projected to grow to ~2300TWh by 2028 according to the EIA.

How a rock cavern, which was previously an oil storage facility, will now become a heat storage facility.

Heat storage is critical for clean district heating and has huge energy system benefits helping to lower system costs.

As electricity's role in the energy mix rises, it's vital to ensure as much of it as possible is generated from clean sources

Under today's policy settings, solar & wind are both set to overtake power generation from coal by 2035

Why do we waste more than 2/3 of the energy inputs you may ask?

One reason is to do with the technologies we use: In conventional fossil fuel systems, significant amounts of primary energy are lost as waste heat during combustion.

Interesting talk below from Oxford energy network. Gas demand decline has impact on grid tariff and the last to switch, most likely the citizens who are already energy vulnerable. This requires careful planning and regulation. #affordableenergy
What do we do with the gas grid when gas demand is in terminal decline?

In my talk at the University of Oxford given this week I draw on years of work we have done at @regassistproj.bsky.social & set out the challenge & solutions. Watch a recording of my talk here.

One type of comment on renewables I get frequently is from people who show primary energy demand.

They say “We will never be able to replace this with renewable energy.”

I tend to differ. Here’s why.👇

A huge wave of LNG supply is coming – with a rise of nearly 50% in global export capacity from now to 2030

This is set to lower natural gas prices, but imported gas still faces stiff competition from renewables & coal, especially in developing economies: https://iea.li/3V6xhvP

Energy efficiency needs a radical rethink.

Making fossil fuel technologies & processes incrementally more efficient is no longer enough.

It might even perpetuate their use.

In my new article I explore how energy efficiency needs to evolve to remain relevant.
